How to Set Up iPhone Email

Add an Email Account to Your iPhone in a Few Steps

How to Set Up iPhone Email

You can easily add email accounts to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. You need an existing email address, though. The iPhone doesn't sign you up for an email account; it just allows you to add an existing account to your phone.

  1. Tap the Settings app. Select Mail.
  2. Tap Accounts, followed by Add Account.
  3. The screen displays a list of common types of email accounts: iCloud, Exchange, Google, Yahoo, AOL and Outlook. If your email provider is on this list, tap it to set up the account automatically.
  1. If you don't see your email provider on the list, tap Other to add your account manually.

To Set Up an Account Automatically

  1. When you have chosen your email provider, enter your email address and the password for the account you are setting up in the fields provided.
  2. Tap the Next button and wait for the account to be verified.
  3. Turn on the types of content you want to sync to the iPhone by using the sliders next to Mail, Contacts and Calendars. These choices may vary depending on your provider and some may be optional, but you must turn on the Mail slider.
  4. Tap Save.
  5. The iPhone redirects you to your email inbox, where messages immediately download from your account to your phone.

To Set Up an Account Manually

You need your email settings to set up an account manually. If you don't have them, contact your email provider or company technician for the information.

  1. From the list of providers, tap Other.
  1. Tap Add Mail Account.
  2. Input your name, email address, password and an account description.
  3. Tap Next and wait while the iPhone searches for your account using the settings you provided. If Mail finds the account, tap Done. You completed the setup.

However, if Mail can't find your account, you'll need to enter more settings.

If you don't have the requested information, contact your email provider for help.

  1. Select POP or IMAP for your account.
  2. Enter your information in the fields for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. If the information is correct, tap Save and you are finished. If not, confirm the correct settings with your email provider and enter them to add your account.
  5. When Mail can verify your account, you'll be taken to your email inbox.

Edit Email Signature

By default, all emails sent from your iPhone include "Sent from my iPhone" as a signature at the end of each message, but you can change your email signature.

  1. Tap the Settings app on your home screen.
  2. Scroll down to Mail and tap it.
  3. Scroll to the item named Signature and tap it to show your current signature.
  4. Edit the text in this area to change it.
  5. There's no need to save the change. Just tap the Mail button in the corner to save the changes.
