What is a PDD File?

How to Open, Edit, & Convert PDD Files

A file with the PDD file extension is most likely an Adobe PhotoDeluxe Image file that was created with Adobe PhotoDeluxe. This type of image format is similar to Adobe's PSD format in that they can both store images, lines, text, and layers.

Adobe PhotoDeluxe was discontinued in 2002 and replaced with Adobe Photoshop Elements. However, as you'll see below, Adobe Photoshop Elements isn't the only program that can open and edit PDD files.

PDD files that aren't image files are probably Medtronic Programmer Data files. These types of files store patient information from a Medtronic Chronicle Implantable Hemodynamic Monitor.

Note: PDD is also used as an abbreviation for process driven development, professional disc for data, and physical device driver

How To Open a PDD File

PDD files can of course be opened and edited with Adobe PhotoDeluxe, but chances are you don't have that program installed. To open the PDD file for free, you can use XnView. This program is just a multimedia viewer and converter, though, not an image editor.

Some other ways you can open and edit PDD files is with Adobe's Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Illustrator, and InDesign software. ACD Systems Canvas supports the PDD format too.

Medtronic Chronicle software can open PDD files that are Medtronic Programmer Data files but I haven't been able to find a specific download link for it.

Note: If these programs aren't opening your file, you might not be working with a PDD file at all but instead a file that just looks like a PPD file. Some files share common file extension letters even though they aren't in the same format, like PDF, PDI, XPD, DDL, and PPD (PostScript Printer Description) files.

If you find that an application on your PC does try to open the PDD file but it's the wrong application or if you would rather have another installed program open PDD files, see my How To Change the Default Program for a Specific File Extension guide for making that change in Windows.

How To Convert a PDD File

The easiest way to convert a PDD file to JPG, BMP, TIFF, PNG, PDF and similar image formats, is to upload the file to CoolUtils.com. Once the PDD file is on that website, you can choose which format to convert it to. You have to download the converted file back to your computer before you can use it.

Tip: If after you convert the Adobe PhotoDeluxe Image file, you want it to be a different image format that's not supported by CoolUtils.com, you can use a free image converter. Just convert the PDD to JPG or some other format first, and then run it through an image converter.

If any program is able to convert a Medtronic Programmer Data file to some other format, I assume it'd be a Medtronic program, which you might have luck finding through the link from above.
